Movie Night?
It's late afternoon when Ianto heads across the grounds from the spa. The last client has left, the massage rooms are cleaned and sanitised, all the files filed. He makes his way over to the cottage that Q is renting, feeling a bit bad that he hasn't seen much of him in the weeks since he started working. He raises a hand and knocks on the door.

	Q is reading a gardening magazine, jotting down terms he's not familiar with. When he hears the knock, he tosses the magazine on the couch and ambles over to the door. He grins at the terrarium that now has pride of place on the piano. He swings open the door. "Hey Ianto! Come to tax your vassals?" Q grins and swings the door wide, gesturing for Ianto to enter. 	"Well if I can't," Q heads for the kitchen, "you might want to get a professional in to look at it. You don't want it to spread. Remember Dutch Elm Disease." He gets a glass from the cupboard. "Ice?" Q looks at Ianto. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Um yeah." Q opens the freezing compartment and rummages for the ice tray. "There aren't any more elm trees in American because of it." He fills the glass with ice and pours in the Coke. He heads back to the living room and hands Ianto the glass. "Or not very many. It was quite a disaster. Anyway, it's not something we should take chances with."

"Would you like to meet my turtle?" he asks shyly.

Q's face goes completely blank. He shakes his head. "I have no idea. I can't seem to recall." He gives a return nod acknowledgment.

"Right!" Q practically swoops over to the piano and plunges his hand into the terrarium. The turtle, quite naturally, retreats into his shell. Q picks him up gently and holds him out in the palm of his hand. "This is John," he tells Ianto, a wide grin now splitting his face. "I named him after John Lennon. "John," he says to the turtle, "this is Ianto, our landlord. So be nice to him." He looks at Ianto, still grinning.

	He nods. "Well, I'm sure we can look it up." Q's happiness and pride are obvious, and Ianto smiles warmly at him. "Hello, John." He reaches out to run a finger lightly along John's shell. "What kind of turtle is he?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Yes, of course." Q seems relieved to be reminded.

"He's a red-eared slider," Q tells Ianto still beaming. "See the little marks on the side of his head? That's why they're called that. Turtles don't have ears really. Would you like to hold him? I don't think he'll do anything naughty on your hand, but I can't promise. He's still young."

I believe there are some elm trees in Central Park that are almost as well-protected as the president.

	Ianto catches a glimpse of the red markings as John tentatively pokes his head out of his shell. "I would love to hold him, yeah. And don't worry, it won't be the worst thing that's ever happened to me." He puts out his hand, flat and open, just like Q's. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	He keeps his hand steady, holding the turtle carefully, fingers stroking gently over the shell. He's not sure if John can even feel anything, but, well, petting animals is what you do. He smiles softly as his head peeks out again. "Hey there." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	John sticks his head farther out of his shell. Q, completely unaware of the delighted grin on his face whispers: "I think he likes you!" "I was sort of afraid he'd be kind of cold and slimy but he isn't. He's just lovely and cool." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Oh, I didn't mean to imply that you weren't." Q is flustered (again). "I mean of course you are. A likable sort of person. Um." He flushes. "Sorry." "He's a very soothing sort of pet actually. Q nods. "Oh. I'm not very good at telling when people are kidding. Pretty terrible actually." He tries to grin. "Maybe you could hold up a sign or something to let me know?"

"Really?" Q seems relieved. "Good. I'm still scared I'm going to do something wrong and hurt him somehow." He takes John from Ianto and puts him back in his terrarium, giving him a pat. John watches the two of them idly through the glass.

"Not really." Q looks up at Ianto. "Just going to do some more reading to see if I can find out what ails the tree."

He nods. "I'll try to remember that." He gives a small smile. "I'll see what I can do."

"Well, I'm sure there are books that tell you how to take care of turtle. Have you looked at one of them yet?"

"Ah, well, if you think you have the time, would you want to come up to the house and watch a movie or something? I feel like I hardly know you, and we practically live together."

"It's all right if you don't," Q tells him. "I'd appreciate it, but you don't need to go to any trouble on my account."

"Yeah, I got a booklet at the pet store. It tells all about what to feed him and how much and stuff like that but," he shrugs. "It's still sort of scary, having him depend on me to take care of him."

"Really?!" Q's voice almost squeaks. "I'd love to! I adore movies! Thanks Ianto! Um...when should I come up? And did you want me to bring anything?"

	"It's not any trouble, Q, really." He smiles encouragingly at him. "I'm sure you'll do just fine." He grins broadly at Q's excitement. "Well, you can just back with me now, if that works for you. Q, unused to having anyone do things for him, flushes. "Thanks."

"I sure hope so," he says fervently.

"Super!" Q dives into the kitchen to get the rest of the cokes from the fridge. "Yeah, I guess you really can't have stuff like this at the spa. Bad for the image." He grins. It fades as he notices the terrarium on the piano. "D'you think John will be all right by himself?"

	"You're welcome." He nods. "I have every confidence in you." He shrugs. "Well, only part of it is a spa. I mean, there are bedrooms and a kitchen and things, where the clients aren't allowed to go.
